Description

[This item has sold on another platform and is no longer available.] Y's for Men - Yohji Yamamoto Collection: Archive (1979 to early 1980s) Composition: Rayon (85%), Cotton (15%) Made in Japan. This is an oversize lightweight plaid shirt from the earliest Y's for Men collections, Yohji's first line for men. The fabric is very breathable and soft, with excellent drape, and the weave has an artisanal textured pattern and a very soft hand. The shirt has many unique features which are sometimes found on these rare early examples of Yohji's designs including: two button-down flaps on the upper part of the front (under the collar on each side), two side-access slit pockets on the front which are designed so that they disappear into the front of the shirt, pointed button tabs on each wrist, and a squared off high-low hem with side-vents on both sides of the bottom hem for a unique silhouette. The shirt is in excellent used condition, with all buttons intact, including the original extra buttons on the care tag. It can be dated by the label style and it is most likely from sometime between 1979 and the early 1980s. It showcases many of the exceptional tailoring methods that characterize the best of Yohji's work and is an ideal piece for collectors of archival work by the designer. Approximate Measurements: • Chest: 24 ¾” (63 cm) • Length: 33 ⅞” (86 cm) • Shoulders: 22 ½” (57 cm) • Sleeve Length: 22 ½” (57 cm) • Hem: 26 ¾” (68 cm) Y's for Men was Yohji Yamamoto's first and original menswear line which ran from 1979 to 2009. He created it based on the idea of clothing for men that would complement his Y's line for women thereby "enabling a man to look his best when standing next to her." The Y's for Men line has always been inspired by Yohji's personal wardrobe. In 2023 the Y's for Men line returned after a 13 year break, and is now a current line again with new collections.
