The Nike SB Dunk Mid “Griffey” is a colorway of the retro skate shoe that draws inspiration from the “Freshwater” makeup of Ken Griffey Jr.’s former signature shoe, the Nike Air Griffey Max 1. This April 2020 release came during the height of the SB Dunk’s resurgence in popularity, and is yet another example of Nike looking within its own archives for design inspiration. The shoe features Freshwater-colored suede on its perforated toe, mid-panel, and collar. Contrasting black suede appears on the overlays, and white leather Swoosh can be found on either side. Griffey’s former “24” jersey number with the Seattle Mariners, which appears on the Air Griffey Max 1, is replaced by the number “58” on the adjustable ankle strap. Red “Nike SB” branding is found on the tongue tag. A black rubber sole with white contrast stitching around the midsole completes the look. Release date: April 20, 2020
