The Nike Air Griffey Max 1 “Emerald” is an original colorway of Ken Griffey Jr.’s former signature shoe with Nike that was reissued in February 2021. Along with the “Freshwater,” the “Emerald” edition of the Baseball Hall of Famer’s classic Air Griffey Max 1 was brought back by Nike to honor the shoe’s 25-year-anniversary in 2021. The “Emerald” gets its nickname from its color block, which refers to the team uniform colors of the Mariners, who play in the “Emerald City,” otherwise known as Seattle. A large white leather Swoosh appears on the toe of the Emerald base. Black synthetic nubuck is found along the eyelets and on the mudguard. A vertical white Swoosh with red trim is embroidered on the heel. Elsewhere, white laces appear over the black nylon tongue. The “24” branding on the black leather adjustable ankle strap honors the uniform number worn by Griffey during his time with the Mariners.
